First day of school

As many of you know, I decided to put Kaylie and Kyrstin through Kindergarten homeschool through K12 virtual academy. Today was our first day and so far we got a lot accomplished. In fact we are actually ahead as school doesnt normally start until the 30th but since they are taking the week of the wedding off I figured we'd get a head start. I encourage all parents to look into k12 because the program is so perfectly customized for the child. There are fewer distractions and the lessons are way more kinesthetic. Today we worked on Literature, Phonics letters T and M, Math (shapes and colors), handwriting the correct way and Science where they learned about their five senses and how they are used in science observation. They both agreed by the end of the day that they enjoyed all of it and what's cool is that when they needed a break we took a break and then they came to me asking if they could do more school. There is also curriculum for history twice a week and Social studies (geography). Basicaly the school sends us a computer and printer, all the text books and work books, reading and story books and then all the learning coach or parent has to do is proctor it. AND its completely free. They even reimburse some of our internet bill. And I met with their teacher this week via telephone and she was super nice and is actually local, in fact Im pretty sure she lives in our neighborhood.

The girls came home from Idaho yesterday and I am so relieved and happy to ahve them home. they were gone for ten days and for part of that time kaylie was sick. she'd been on a steriod for her sinusitis and it made her sick too. We went to her lung specialist today and it was determined that we were going to put her in a sleep study to see if she suffers from sleep apnia. An x ray showed that she has enlarged adnoids that may be causing her airways to be restricted. So we will find out in the next week or two if she has sleep apnia and from there look into some ways of making it better. Oh and get this: she told the nurse she was celebrating her birthday this weekend and so the nurse asked the doctor if they had anything cute to give her for her birthday like stickers or something and he ended up giving her a portable dvd player. I am not kidding. brand spankin new still in the box. So a big thank you to Dr. Ryan and Children's lung specialists and the nurse too.
